kud • zu \kud-zü\ n a ubiquitous vine/weed found in Southern climes that, left uncontrolled, will grow over any fixed object in its path, including trees, power lines, and the entire state of Georgia.

deb•u•tante \de-byu-tänt\ n a young woman making a debut into society, easily spotted in white dress and pearl necklace. Common names include Muffy, Bootsy, and Bunny.

Eadie Boone is no shrinking violet. An artist and former beauty queen who married into one of the first families of Ithaca, Georgia, she tackles everything with gusto and flair. But tailing her wayward husband proves to be, well, an exasperating chore. If only Trevor would just see the light, dump his twenty-two-year-old hussy, and return home, Eadie’s creative energy could be put to better use. Now all she has to do is convince him.

Nita Broadwell, a good Southern girl from a good Southern family, is jolted out of complacency when she discovers condoms in her husband’s shirt pocket (“Maybe he’d found them on the ground and picked them up”). Between clinging to denial and dodging her overbearing mother-in-law, Nita is also trying to break her addiction to steamy bodice-ripper novels. Only now it appears she’s authoring her own real-life romance tale with a hunky handyman thirteen years her junior.

Lavonne Zibolsky–a transplanted Yankee, bless her heart–is saddled with planning the annual Broadwell & Boone law firm party. That and her lackluster marriage have her seeking solace in the contents of her refrigerator. If she could just put down the Rocky Road ice cream and peach pie, she might get around to finding a caterer, dropping sixty pounds, and figuring out how to fall in love with her husband again. Not necessarily in that order.

Bonded by years of friendship, these three women discover what else they have in common lying, cheating spouses. So they heed their collective betrayals as a wake-up call and band together to exact sweet revenge. The take-charge trio will see to it that the punishment is just, exquisitely humiliating, and downright hilarious.

Cathy Holton’s debut novel is a delicious yarn of friendship and marriage, secrets and retribution, and how nothing stays hidden for long. Against a Southern backdrop of gentility and decorum, Revenge of the Kudzu Debutantes dares to abandon Junior League social graces in ways that would make even Scarlett O’Hara blush.

"It’s great fun reading about these women as they trade their tea for tequila and get smart, get out, and get even, with amusing, and surprising results." --Nancy Thayer, author of The Hot Flash Club

"Sly, smart, and full of great characters -- and then there’s that sweet, sweet revenge. Getting even has never been so creative. Or delicious." --Louise Shaffer, author of The Ladies of Garrison Gardens

... of a kudzu vine. What I was hoping for is not what I got with this novel. It was not funny, nor madcap, nor anything else the reviews and synopsis lead me to believe. With the words Kudzu Debutantes, I was expecting all those things and more. I expected characters who although new to me, were familiar. There was only one remotely like that. Sadly, she wasn't a main character. The story moved at a rate significantly slower than kudzu grows. I kept turning the pages though, hoping for resuscitation. I thought we might have gotten there, close to the end, but no. This one gasped a last breath and finally passed on. I am a lover of serials, but I have no compulsion to buy the next one in this series.

Revenge of the Kudzu Debutantes (Audible Audio Edition) Cathy Holton Marguerite Gavin Inc Blackstone Audio Books Reviews

Agree with another.reviewer that parts were sad. First half of book took some dredging through it but second half was poignant and funny. I was laughing out loud a couple of times. Especially when the husbands were on their trip in the end I can say that I enjoyed it
Fun, not too serious, but still well written.
I would just like to say "thank you" Cathy Holton.... I loved your book and more importantly I really loved the strength and friendship with the women. I don't believe there is anything more important, fulfilling and necessary than our women friends. So, 2 beautiful books-which I am happy to share with the wonderful women in my life! PLEASE keep writing.

Thank you,

Patty Busto
I really enjoyed this book. I have to say though, the plot has been done, over and over actually, scorned wives wanting revenge on their awful husbands....but I enjoyed this book so much anyway. It was laugh out loud funny in quite a few places, and once I started it, I could not put it down. I would like to say though, I read it on kinlde and there were a couple of editing goofs, but it didn't matter. I still enjoyed the book so much. I see there is a sequel , off to order it from . I can't wait to see what happened to all the characters I fell in love with.
This is a "must read" if you have any humor at all. These ladies are a piece of work! I have read this book over and over, loaned it to a friend, and then bought another for my . Its sequel about the Debutantes is just as funny, if not more so!!! This will be the best money you will ever spend on a book or books, if you also buy the sequel. I am hoping that Cathy writes more of these types of books because they sure do "make my day."
Fun, this is just a fun book. If you are a little fascinated by southern living, you will like this book. If you like to see the underdog come out ahead, you will like this book. Three southern wives discover multiple transgressions by their husbands, and these three best friends take matters into their own hands. They not only get even, they are looking to the future, and taking care of themselves. So yeah, if you have a well to do, cheating, and lying husband, you could learn a couple of things from this book . All in all, fun, interesting and characters you will like and identify with. I found that near the end, I could not put it down, and I was cheering for my three new friends. Just read the sequel book too and I loved it as well,
Back in May of 2009, I read my first Cathy Holton novel Beach Trip A Novel. Following that up with Summer in the South A Novel and The Sisters Montclair over the next few years, I had meant to go back and read her first two novels about the Kudzu Debutants but had never gotten around to it until now.

Ms. Holton knows how to write a good book and her flair for capturing the flavor of the South is amazing. Since this is her freshman effort, there isn't quite the polish of her later novels, but it is a hoot from beginning to end in addition to being poignant at times. I particularly enjoyed her descriptions of the Yankee couple transplanting themselves to the South and the way each spouse adapted (or not) to the new culture in which they find themselves.

What could be a re-tread of a worn out storyline - three friends find themselves in less than satisfying marriages -- it ends up being far from that. Fresh, funny, and well-written, this is an entertaining read from beginning to end. I finished it last night on my as I was reading in bed and promptly downloaded the next one, called The Secret Lives of the Kudzu Debutantes A Novel. I won't be waiting long to start on it as I know an enjoyable read awaits.
